Mary Ann (Norvell) Ryan, 73, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Bayhealth Hospital. Mary was born on March 10, 1948 in Wilmington, Delaware the daughter of the late Walter Norvell and Margaret Reese. She recently retired from the Smyrna School District working in the Child Nutrition Program, where she cherished many friendships with her co-workers. Mary enjoyed working in her earlier years as a bus driver and also waitressed at both Sambo's and the Smyrna Diner. She was well known as the "Ticket Lady" working at all the Smyrna High School sporting events. She created a bond with many students through the years, who affectionately called her Mom-Mom Ryan.
Mary was predeceased by her late husband, James Walter Ryan Sr. Survived by her children, Mary O'Connell (Brian), Jimmy Ryan Jr (Sandra), Ginger Barkley (John Sr); grandchildren Jim Ryan III (Sammi), Joey O'Connell (Dawn), Matt Ryan (Corey), Emily Walker (Troy), John Barkley Jr (Olivia) and Lauren Barkley; great-grandchildren Rohan, Gavin and Dawson O'Connell. She was predeceased by her siblings; Patricia Turner, Walter Norvell and Gladys Reese. Survived by siblings; Charlie Norvell, Paul Norvell, Thelma Edwards and Clinton Norvell. She was also survived by her special niece/caregiver Donna Virdin, special nephew Rodney Hufford and her little nighttime snack buddy, Owen Hufford.
Visitation will be held at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W Commerce St., Smyrna, DE on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm with a memorial service to follow. Burial will take place immediately following at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna, DE.
