SENSATIONAL OCCURRENCE at FEILDING
A Girl Shoots At Several Persons . Feilding was thrown into a state of intense excitement on Monday afternoon through the conduct of a young woman named Annie Looney and her father, Thomas Looney, the former having procured a revolver and a large number of cartridges and having fired at a number of persons, one of whom was hit in the back of the head and received a rather serious wound.
The accused and a young man named T. Gillies had been on friendly terms for several weeks past, until something occurred which broke off their intimacy
.. about 3.30 o'clock on Monday afternoon the residents in the vicinity of the Manchester Hotel were startled by the discharge of a firearm and the girl Looney was seen firing the revolver down the street as if to test the weapon. She next aimed and fired at Gillies who was erecting a scaffolding in connection with Darragh's new brick building
.. the accused discharged the whole of the chambers in the revolver but kept on loading as fast as she fired, turning her weapon first on one and then on the other
.. Mounted Constable Healey procured a revolver and had determined to obtain a horse and rush the father and daughter so as to secure their arrest. By this time a large and excited crowd had collected, some of whom threw stones at the girl as she rapidly fired and loaded her revolver

The funeral of the late Mr Thomas Gillies took place at Masterton on Friday afternoon and was largely attended by friends and relatives, many beautiful wreaths and crosses being sent to be place on the coffin, including one from the nursing staff of the Masterton Hospital. The deceased was a grandson of the late Mrs Thomas Wakelin of Greytown and had many relatives in the Wairarapa.
