Barbara Ann Simmons Porter, 81, of Moundville, passed away on Thursday, January 06, 2022, at DCH in Tuscaloosa. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 2:00PM from Moundville Baptist Church, with Bro. Jason Duckett officiating and Bishop Jeremy Donald assisting. A Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will immediately follow from Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville, with Bishop Johnathon Pope officiating. Services are under the direction of Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa, a Dignity Memorial Provider. Ms Porter was born December 27, 1940 to the late Grover Russell and Floretta Simmons. She worked for many years with Phifer wife. She was a Baptist by faith and faithful member of Moundville Baptist Church, where she was especially fond of activities with the Ladies Group. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her phenomenal Cornbread and Butter Beans, among many other specialties. She was proud of her Native American Indian heritage, loved flowers, the colors pink and white and Gospel singings. She also had a special enjoyment of YouTube and Facebook while frequenting the Moundville Library. She lived a full life, however the center of her world was always her family. She was an amazing Mother, and she even stepped in and fulfilled the role of Dad to her four children, after the death of her husband. Affectionately known as "Nannie" she leaves behind a devoted family that will miss her more than words can say, although their lives will be forever impacted by her passing, they are reassured that this is only "See You Later!" In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fred "Shorty" Porter, Jr., sister Mary Loretta "Juby" Simmons Dean; brothers Thomas Russell Simmons, Tony Ray Simmons, Gilbert Marlin Simmons and William Grover Simmons. She is survived by her daughters: Becky (Tommy) Clanton of Duncanville, Vicki Porter of Duncanville, Rennotta Lynn "Notta" Porter Shepherd of Moundville; son Timothy Wayne (Christy) Porter of Northport; brothers: Robert (Carolyn) Simmons of San Antonio, TX and Douglas Haden Simmons of Moundville; Grandchildren: Beverly Nicole (Johnathon) Pope, Misty LaShan (Scott) Cain, Jonathan Lee Clanton (Megan Norris), Jessica Leeann (Johnny) Spiegner, Dustin Wayne Porter, Stephen Randy Shepherd, Taylor Michele Shepherd (Josh) Strickland, Cassidy (Chris) Largin, Andrew Rinehart and Ally Rinehart; great-grandchildren: Nolan Pope, Brody Pope, Kaylee Cain, Krista Cain, Kaleb Cain, Colten Clanton, Kelsey Clanton, Kiley Clanton, Casey Clanton, Karson Junkin, Parker Speigner, JJ Strickland, Jason Strickland and Jason Shepherd. Ms. Porter's Grandsons and Great-Grandsons and Kevin Green will serve as Active Pallbearers.
