Born August 19, 1951, in Detroit, a daughter of Jack and Jane (Holcombe) Taylor, Pearl was raised in Oak Park and graduated from Ferndale High School, Class of 1969. She worked the summer second season at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island where she made several friends from the Upper Peninsula. In 1972, Pearl relocated to Marquette, joining her friends, and never left Marquette. Her first local employment was as a waitress at the Big Boy Restaurant and subsequent employments included Marquette General Hospital where she was employed close to 25 years, taking an early retirement when the hospital was sold. She continued working as a cook at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility, Northern Michigan University, and finally at the Marquette Food Co-op. Pearl's passions centered around the arts, culture, and music. She was a member and served on the first board of directors of the Hiawatha Music Festival and was head of hospitality for the festival. Additionally, she was also associated with the Wheatland Music Festival in Remus and attended their annual celebration of music and the arts. Throughout the years, many friendships were forged at the local and downstate festivals. In her leisure, Pearl also enjoyed knitting, beading, cook books and collecting eclectic art.

(Kimberly) Taylor of Charlevoix; a niece, Cora Taylor; nephews, Keon Taylor and James "Jimmy" (Maria) Taylor; and many friends from the Hiawatha and Wheatland music festivals whom she treasured as family.
