George R. Edwards
June 8, 1949 - January 1, 2022

Mr. George R. Edwards was born on June 8, 1949, to the union of Charles and Mary Edwards in Kyle, West Virginia.  George was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Northfork, West Virginia.  George was raised and grew up in West Virginia.  He loved to talk about playing high school basketball, where he was captain of the basketball team, played football and graduated from Northfork High School.  During his 1966-1967 Senior Year at Northfork High School, his senior class was among the 1st to be racially integrated.  He cherished his time and enjoyed living in West Virginia, New York, and Illinois.  Our cherished and loving George was loved by his family, his friends and those who had the honor of knowing him throughout his life.

George committed himself to serving the Lord and shared in his wife's outreach with the homeless, the hungry, the shut-in, the sick and disabled.  George rose early to start his day with prayer and reading his bible before heading to work daily to tirelessly provide for and protect his family.  He provided the type of example that we loved and appreciated as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to those of us that loved him most. George, his beloved best friend, and wife Mae Frances of over 43 years of marriage (whom he lovingly called Frances) and their family have felt blessed attending Waukegan Community Church.

In his retirement, our dad enjoyed watching TD Jakes on tape and on tv, reading his bible, spending quality time with his family, and catching up with his friends and extended family.

To our dear and honorable dad, grandfather, and friend – job well done, good and faithful servant.

George embraced his faith, covered his family in prayer and now he has safely joined the love of his life - Frances in the embrace of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  George's love for the Lord was shared by his wife and they laid the foundation of faith for their children and grandchildren.  George and his wife Frances taught their family about faith, love, family, strength, endurance, trusting in God's peace, and the ability to love the Lord at all times.  George provided a loving example of faith through his devotion as a Christian, and as an overwhelming example of an exceptional man of faith, a husband, father, brother, cousin, grandfather, and friend closer than a brother.

On Saturday, January 1, 2022, George unexpectedly transitioned from his earthly body to his heavenly presence with the Lord.  George has joined the author and the finisher of his faith.  We know that with our own faith and with God's grace, mercy, and his salvation, that we will get to see him again.

George's love of his life, his best friend and beloved wife – Mae Frances Edwards, his loving parents Charles and Mary Edwards, his father and mother-in-law James and Nelda Ferguson, his brother, Charles Edwards, his sister-in-law Lawanda Stephenson, his brother-in-law George Ferguson, his sister-in-law Debra Hoy, his daughter-in-law Brenda Ferguson, an infant son James Edwards, several dear friends that were like brothers and sisters and a host of extended relatives preceded him death.

George leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories:  his loving children - Lane (Delillian) Ferguson, Jackie (Robert) Cooper, Mary Edwards, Ralph Edwards and Cheritta Edwards; grandchildren – Quinnesha Wyche, Auriel Wyche, Deonte Wyche, Brenda Ferguson, Lane Ferguson Jr., Makala Ferguson, Beautiful Wade and great-grandchildren – Sariya Cotton, Amelia Ferguson and Rishon Travers; a cousin – Loretta Powell; brothers-in-law - James Ferguson Jr. and Gene Hoy; sister in-laws - Noradene (Michael) Dollen and Patricia Callahan and a host of best and dear friends more like family including Rev. Gerald Mayhan, William McCoy, James Younger, William Younger, William Carrington, Ron Carrington, Ralph Washington, Larry Craighead, Ellis Bryson, the Powell Family, the Calloway Family, the Morrow Family and many more.

Our dear dad is beyond missed.  It cannot be put into words how greatly loved and dearly missed he is by all of us whose lives he touched.
