Larry was a graduate of Wood High School and had been employed for 18 years at Schmidt Optical as a lens grinder. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and was a collector of football trading cards. Larry looked forward to family camping trips to both Brown County and Raccoon Lake. Larry was a volunteer fireman while he was living in Brighton, Michigan. He was also an assistant coach for the Oilers Little League football, in which his son played. Larry also enjoyed watching old western movies.
Larry was a member of Word of Life Church in Indianapolis where he enjoyed singing and serving as an usher, greeter and Sunday School teacher. He served as President of the Indiana Gospel Music Association and later went on to record an album of Gospel music with his daughters.
Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Susan (Osiecki) Johnson, whom he married July 2, 1978; his children, Lisa Delong, Albert (Susan) Johnson, Lammatta Johnson, Lynette (Mike) Minton and Lawrence R. Johnson; his siblings, Rick (Jackie) Johnson and Bridget (Tim) Thrasher; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with Pastor Jan Vanover officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
