ROCKY MOUNT – Robert L. Burgess, age 88, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert C. Burgess and Mary Ruth Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Fumiko Burgess; and his sister, Joyce Goodell.
Robert was a proud retired US Air Force veteran with 22 years of service. He served in both Vietnam and Korea. Robert loved camping and spending time outdoors. He loved reading in his down time. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Kuniko Burgess, of Chesapeake, VA; his sons, Michael Burgess (Susan Norville), of Rocky Mount, and Charles Burgess, of Rocky Mount; his sister, Patricia Hoos, of Charlotte; his cousins, Caroline Batts and Geri Haskins; and numerous other relatives.
