She held a strong Christian faith that emboldened her in many pursuits. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1959 and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1977. She met Garney "Toby" Hood in 1961 and they married in 1964. Her diverse careers found her in many unique positions: telephone operator, hospital dietician, social services worker, school system aide, and church support staff. As a telephone operator, he was one of the last remaining switchboard operators which answered and connected phone calls in Hammond. She enjoyed travelling, seeing new places, meeting new people, and always looked forward to a new road trip. She was a welcoming person who would invite you into her home, offer you coffee and something to eat, and make you as comfortable as possible. Her other hobbies included sewing, crochet, cooking, reading, and serving as an Auxiliary member of Gideon's International.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Garney "Toby" Hood; daughter, Debra Lynn Hood; sons, Keith Hood (Delaine) and Jim Hood (Amy). She leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Katie Hood Guidry (Blake), Cade Hood, Ethan Hood, and Meghan Hood, and her 1st great-grandchild which is expected in July. She also leaves 3 siblings behind, sister, Norma Stewart St. Cyr (Merlin) and brothers, A. Wayne Stewart and Ronnie Stewart (Pat) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Carl and Irene Tate Stewart and sister-in-law, Sallye Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations of Bibles through Gideon's International, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Hebron Baptist Church in Denham Springs, LA, on Friday, January 14, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will continue Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
