Mrs. Catherine (Cat) Mable Brewer, 88, of Whitesburg, GA passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
She was born December 8, 1933 the daughter of the late Mr. Theodore William Wade and the late Mrs. Clara Bennett Wade. Her parents passed away when she was an infant and she was raised by her aunt, Mary Bennett Johnson. Cat worked as a bookkeeper for Mead Packaging Company in Atlanta GA until her retirement. She was a member of the Whitesburg Baptist Church and the Seniors Citizens Club in Whitesburg. She was a feisty, sassy, funny, loving, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend. Gifting tea cakes and banana bread to people in her community was her way of helping those who were in need of a pick me up. Many in Whitesburg referred to her as The Tea Cake Lady. She thoroughly enjoyed living in the rural area of Carroll County but loved being on the go and keeping the roads hot with her weekly trips to the "city" of Whitesburg. Cat would talk (and talk) to just about anyone trying to figure out if they had a relative or friend in common. She loved to cook, she loved to can and freeze fresh vegetables, loved to talk on the phone, play solitaire, play gin rummy, play that slot machine, have her hair fixed every Thursday, and loved visiting with family and friends. Although Cat has transcended to a higher place, here on earth she will be missed.
In addition to her parents and her aunt, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F Brewer, who passed away November 3, 2011; her sisters, Lucille Sweatman and Margaret Parris; her adopted sister, Lucille Tidwell (and her son Doug Tidwell); sister-in-law Janie King; brothers-in-law Bruce Griswell and Clinton Sweatman.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Carla Brewer Carnes of Whitesburg, Debora Brewer DeThomas and John Fariss of St Augustine FL; granddaughters Stacey Funk (and her husband Bob), Tiffany Carnes, and Brittany Carnes; great grandchildren Taylor Funk, Kara Davis, and Marli Huddleston; great great grandchild, Jonathan Haveard; sister-in-law Shirley Griswell; brother-in-law Larry King; adopted nephew Robert Tidwell, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will have a Memorial Service at the Whitesburg Baptist Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Whitesburg Baptist Church or the Senior Citizens Club would be very much appreciated.
J. Collins Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Villa Rica is in charge of arrangements.
