Marilyn Faye Johnson
October 14, 1948 - December 31, 2021

Marilyn Faye Johnson, daughter of the late Cletus and LaVerne Redd Johnson, was born on October 14, 1948, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, December 31, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She married her high school sweetheart, James Michael Johnson on October 1, 1965, and graduated from East Prairie High School in May 1966. She and "James M" (as she affectionately called him) spent four years in Florida as he served in the United States Air Force and then returned home to East Prairie, where she spent the majority of her life loving and caring for her family as a homemaker.

At a young age she committed her life to Jesus and became a member of The First Christian Church in East Prairie. In adulthood, she served beside her husband in pastoral ministry for over 20 years at Full Gospel Church. She loved serving others through music, teaching, newsletters, and acts of service.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Mike, their two children, Michelle McGruder (Eric), and Mark Johnson (Rebecca), and five grandchildren, Spencer (Kali), Jacob, Samuel, Zion, and Emmet. She is also survived by her brother, J.T. (Sharon) and sister, Starr. She is additionally survived and dearly adored by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Shirley, and her brother, Kevin.

No matter the obstacle or challenge, Marilyn always projected an attitude of optimism and light. Her compassion and concern for others were common threads in everything she did, and this was often reflected through a smile, kind words, or handmade gifts she offered to so many. Her days were filled with reading the Bible, checking on her family, cooking, learning, and crocheting, knitting, or sewing. She was a living example of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Tommy Smotherman and Sis. Helen Kersey officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Spencer, Jake, and Eric McGruder, Tess Marshall, David Kenedy, and Chris Oatsvall. Honorary pallbearers are Samuel and Emmet Johnson, Tommy and Klevin Smotherman, and Blake Jackson.
