GRANGER- Frances "Jane" Thornton, 95, of Granger, died Friday December 31, 2021 at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Indiana. She was born August 8, 1926, to Albert and Gladys (Hook) Quier in Mishawaka, Indiana. On October 12, 1945, she married Ralph W. Thornton who preceded her in death on November 23, 2011.

Surviving are 2 children, Beverly Baer, and Thomas Thornton; 4 grandchildren, Stacy (Anthony) Volheim, Spencer Thornton, Travis (Angie) Thornton and Wade Thornton; 8 great-grandchildren, Dustin Thornton, Kiefer Thornton, Carson (Sydney) Volheim, Chloe and Brittnay Simmons, Sophie Adkins, Peyton and Bruce Thornton. Also surviving are 3 great great grandchildren, Gavin Thornton, Paxton and Natalie Volheim.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph W. Thornton, a son Gerald Thornton, a granddaughter Tamara Simons, a daughter in law, Susan Thornton, sisters, Alice Carroll, Betty Simpson, Lorene Martin, Doris Books and brothers, Robert Quier and Darwin Quinn.

Frances retired from CTS Corporation in July of 1988 after over 30 years of service. Along with her husband and son they raised sweet corn and vegetables which they sold at their roadside stand. They also raised beef cattle and great Danes. She was a cancer survivor.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday January 15th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Salem United Methodist Church, 52173 Ash Road, Granger, IN. Pastor Charles Mwale will preside. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
