Barbara Jean Broussard Calloway, 88, of Moss Bluff, died September 1, 2020 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Lafayette where she had been evacuated by hospice before Hurricane Laura. Mrs. Calloway was born July 19, 1932 in Lake Charles. She graduated from LaGrange High School and attended McNeese State University. She met the love of her life, Delbert Calloway, Sr., at a Lake Charles YMCA dance in 1951, when he was stationed at Camp Polk during the Korean War. They were married later that year and remained married for 68 years. Early in her marriage, she worked in an office downtown and later taught piano in her home. She loved to play piano and her family and friends have fond memories of standing around her and singing along while she played her favorite American Standards.

She was a member of Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Methodist Church, initially at First Methodist, later at Simpson Methodist and finally at Moss Bluff Methodist. She was active in the women's circles and, in later years, the "Young at Heart" organization.

Barbara loved taking cruises on the Mississippi riverboats, visiting Branson, going to musicals, watching classic movies, and traveling with her husband and family, particularly to Indiana where Delbert was from. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting gatherings in her home. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and took great joy in being with her loved ones. To her friends and family, she was loving, selfless, giving, kind, and always had a smile on her face. She was the most easy-going person you would ever want to meet. She could carry on a conversation with anyone and everyone, and never missed the chance to do so.

She is survived by her son, Delbert Calloway, Jr. and wife, Terry, of Lake Charles, daughter, Laura Calloway Allured, and husband, Tim, of Lafayette, grandchildren, Del B. Calloway and wife, Kacie, Ryan Calloway and wife, Kelly, and Candace Hood. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Juliana, Elise and Brant, and her beloved cats Talula and Addie, who were at her side when she passed away.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Amelia "Tootsie" Broussard, and her husband of 68 years, Delbert Calloway, Sr., who passed away just three months ago.

The family is eternally grateful to caregivers Rita Thigpen and Robin Shaw for their compassionate and expert care given to their loved ones, Mr. Delbert and Ms. Barbara, in the final years of their lives. Their devotion went far beyond the basics. We were fortunate to have them come into our lives at this difficult time. We consider them part of the family now.

We also are grateful to the Heart of Hospice Southwest and Acadiana for their assistance, kindness and care in Barbara and Delbert's final days.

Mrs. Calloway's private service is entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Burial will be in New Ritchie Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Barbara Calloway may be made to Hobo Hotel for Cats and Kittens where she adopted her precious Talula.
