Jack Pike Elston passed away at his home in Dublin, Georgia on October 25, 2010.

Jack was predeceased by his father, Roland Hollenbeck Elston and mother, Helen Olive (Pike) Elston, brother in law, John Forguson and son in law, Blaise Widmer.

Jack is survived by his sister Janice Forguson and his wife of 65 loving years, Jean Frances Elston and their five children; Michael (Connie) Elston, Jerry (Cheryl) Elston, Karen Widmer, Teresa (Jim) Ryder and Tom (Sue) Elston. Jack also has 19 grandchildren - Michele (Charlie) Lersche, Seneca (Shane) Mallar, Jada (Russ) Turner, Erin Elston, Craig (Kelly) Elston, Patrick Elston, Carey (JonPaul) Howey, Sarah (Kevin) Ryck, Paul (Bonnie) Slater, Matt (Amy) Widmer, Samantha (Anthony) Tomlinson, Mark Widmer, Abbey Widmer, Andrea (John) Harrison, Kyle Wilson, Lindsey (Rich) Thetga, Ryan (Nicole) Elston, Sumer (Phil) North, and Mike Elston. He and Jean have also been blessed with an ever growing number of great grandchildren - Derek, Olivia, Emma, Ethan, Sophie, Dustin, Collin, Bailey, Brynn, Madison, Reese, Luke, Brooke, Katelyn, Miles, Mackenzie, Tyson, Kylee, Christopher, Samantha, Harry, Archie, Taite, Molly and Jack Thomas - 23 and counting.

Jack was born May 8, 1923 in Waverly, New York and graduated from Waverly High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and served during World War II in the Army Air Corp. In 1945, Jack married Jean Frances Brown. Jack operated the family farm in Barton, NY for many years. In 1965 Jack began as a rural letter carrier for the Waverly Post Office, retiring in 1981. In the early 80's, Jack & Jean retired to southern Florida, settling in a small golfing community where they made friends and wonderful memories for 20 years. Most recently, Jack and Jean moved to Dublin, Georgia, coming home to New York for regular visits. Jack lived life well, sharing life experiences with his family and friends. He was, above all, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is greatly missed but his life and stories live on in all who know and love him.

A memorial service will be held at the Barton Methodist Church on Saturday, November 6 at one o'clock. Following the service, from 2 to 4 o'clock, the family will welcome friends at the Barton Community Club. In lieu of flowers, it would please and honor Jack's memory for donations to be made to Tioga County Rural Ministries, 143 North Avenue, Owego, NY 13827.
