Janet J. Anderson, 87, of Akron, Iowa, passed away on December 26, 2021, at the Akron Care Center.

Janet J. McCarthy was born September 24, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Milton "Pug" and Gertrude McCarthy. Pug and Gert taught their six children the virtues of hard work, humility, gratitude, curiosity, care and concern for others and a strong commitment to family; all were trademark descriptors of Janet. Janet graduated from Akron High School in 1952. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron where she served in many capacities for the parish.

Janet married Stanley Anderson on March 24, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. After spending time away from Iowa during Stanley's USMC military service, the couple made their home together on the farm southeast of Akron for nearly seven decades. At the time of her passing, Stan and Janet enjoyed 69 years of marriage; during which time they would each say they never really had an argument. Together, they weathered through the tough times with teamwork and grace, and they celebrated the good times with appreciation and humility. Janet took great pride in managing a beautiful and love-filled home while also serving as the loyal business partner with Stanley as they tended to their cattle, planted, and harvested crops, and as they served area farmers with their seed business.

As an avid reader with endless curiosity, Janet acquired deep knowledge in the subjects of her greatest interests. Janet never stopped discovering and she instilled her love of learning into her three sons, raising an engineer, an accountant, and a teacher. She had deep interest, knowledge and understanding of current events and world affairs and enjoyed engaging others in discussion about her favorite topics.

Janet will be remembered for her deep intellect, as an eternal optimist, a talented seamstress and knitter, a masterful interior decorator, and a gracious hostess. She was a great cook and baker, had a wonderfully witty sense of humor, and was a voracious reader. She loved listening to a wide range of music from rock to easy listening. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, completing fancy coloring books and engaging with various other crafts. Janet loved to watch football with Stanley, particularly the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Green Bay Packers. Janet greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren, Paul and Emily. Janet will be most remembered for her love of family; specifically, being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and someone who was simply among the finest that humanity had to offer. Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Anderson, her sons, Bradley Anderson (Mary) and Chace Anderson (Barb), two grandchildren, Paul Anderson and Emily Anderson, her siblings, Mary Pals and Mark McCarthy, and many other special family members and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her son, Warren Anderson, her parents, Milton and Gertrude McCarthy, her brothers Don, John (Jack) and Tom McCarthy, and many other special relatives and lifelong friends.

Janet's family wishes to extend special thanks to always-ready-to-help nephew Morey Anderson and to dear and attentive friends and neighbors; Gloria and Lou Kingma, Kevin and Sandi DeRocher, Dave and Valerie Appley and each of their families. Appreciation is also extended to the caring and dedicated professionals at the Akron Care Center, from St. Croix Hospice and the medical staff at the Akron Mercy Medical Clinic. Their talent and expertise are deeply appreciated and respected
