MOS: 11B2P Infantryman (Airborne Qual.)
Berlin arrived in Vietnam 23 March 1968 and was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division, USARV. A Company was participating on a combat operation when they were engaged by hostile forces and Berlin died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body form hostile rifle fire.
Sgt Shumate served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his parents, Berlin Rennis and Eva Joy Meredith Shumate and a brother of 24590 2nd Street, Hayward, California.
