Dean Ivan Gilborne, 88, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale ND.

Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, Aberdeen, SD. Reverend Ruth E. Clendenin of First Presbyterian Church will be officiating.

Burial is at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Aberdeen, SD with Military Honors.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, at the mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the funeral.

Dean Gilborne was born November 10, 1933, in Wetonka, SD to Davis and Catherine (Kaven) Gilborne. He attended Richland Country School for grades one through eight, then attended Ipswich Public School for grades nine through 12, and graduated from Ipswich in 1951.

Dean married his sweetheart, Darlene Stadtlander, on October 20, 1953, at the Mina Presbyterian Church in Mina SD, and they were married for a beautiful 68 years and two months. From this union became one son, Rod, and one daughter, Penny.

Dean went into the service in the Navy in November of 1955, served two years, and was honorably discharged in September of 1957. After this, he and Darlene farmed together near Mina for many years, until his retirement in 2011 when they moved to Aberdeen.

They were members of the Mina Presbyterian Church for six years until they joined the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church in 1969. Dean was an usher for the church for many years. He belonged to the American Legion and was a lifetime member of both the Moose Lodge and the VFW.

Grateful for having shared Dean's life are his wife, Darlene; daughter, Penny Humphrey of Sioux Falls, SD; Rod (Delilia) Gilborne of Mina, SD; grandchildren: William (Sam) Gilborne, Cody (Morgan) Humphrey, Danzan (Anna) Gilborne, and Casey Gilborne; two great-grandchildren: Josh Gilborne and Jayden Gilborne.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Davis in May of 1977; his mother, Catherine in August of 1985; his brother, Robert (George) Gilborne in June of 2013; two sisters-in-law: Claudia in May of 1969 and Evonne in April of 2014.
