CHURCH AND NEWS EXECUTIVE IS DEAD

SALT LAKE CITY, February 12 (AP) James A. Langton, 81, Utah editor and ewducator, died today.

Langton, editorial writer of the Deseret News the past 21 years was well known for his educational activities prior to his newspaper association.

He was an instructor in Cache County schools in 1884 and later became superintendent of Logan schools He also taught two years in Salt Lake high schools before joining the staff of Brigham Young University.

In 1923 Langton was appointed to the Utah Board of Education, a position he held six years. He also was active in church work, serving as superintendent of Sunday Schools and as a high priest in the Latter-Day Saint Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Edna Cardon Langton, and two daughters in Salt Lake City.
