Obituary for Robert Leroy Sanchez
Robert Leroy Sanchez, 66, passed away on December 28, 2021 in Westminster, CO.
"Leroy" (as he was known by all who loved him) was born in Las Animas Colorado and raised in Pueblo Colorado.
Leroy graduated from East high school in 1973, he joined the U.S. Army following graduation and served for two years. During his period of service Leroy received the National Defense Service Medal.
He continued service to the community through a career in print news, he retired from the Denver Post in 2017 after 33 years.
Leroy married Florence Martinez in 1977 and completed their family with two sons.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and being a grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Flo; his sons, Robert (Noelle) Sanchez Jr, and David (Amiye) Sanchez; his grandchildren Alyssa (Dylan) Gamez, Andrew (Lacey) Brame, Issac Sanchez, Kalube Hulett, Lily Sanchez, Jordyne Sanchez, Khaleesi Sanchez, Ariyah Sanchez; 3 great grandchildren; his mother, Thelma Sanchez; siblings Ben (Denise) Sanchez, Tina (Ken) Gulley, Gloria (Tom) Brooks, and Carol Sanchez; and many nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Sanchez.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 7, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.roselawnpueblo.org.
