Mrs. JoAnn Mullinax Ray, 89, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, at NHC – National Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the committal.
Mrs. Ray was born August 14, 1932 in Chester, SC and was a daughter of the late Benjamin G. Mullinax and Edna Ophelia Stewart Mullinax. She was a graduate of Cornelius High School, Cornelius, NC. Mrs. Mullinax was retired from public healthcare having worked in Columbia, SC and was previously employed as an Administrative Assistant with the Charlotte Police Department. She is survived by three children, Boni Lea (Trip) of Charlotte, NC, Harry Ray, Jr. (Susan) of Lexington, SC and Jodi Ray of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Niki, Jenni, Mary Katherine, Hap and Jordan; four great grandchildren, Kaeli, Cassidy, Blake and Mason; one great-great grandson, Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Highway Patrolman Harry B. Ray, Sr. who was killed in the line of duty; a daughter, Bee Gee Ray; two sisters and one brother.
