Elliott, Jesse - Private - Enlisted March 4, 1862 Co. G 39th Georgia Infantry Regiment, CSA. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863, and paroled there July 8, 1863. No later record (in the Confederate Army).

He married Darcus D. Painter April 1, 1862 in Gilmer County, Georgia. They had one known child Jesse H. Elliott born about 1863 in Gilmer County, Georgia.

Some records indicate Jesse died in 1863 during the Civil War---which is not correct. After being captured and paroled at Vicksburg, MS he returned home to Gilmer County. In late 1864 he joined the Union Army as a Private in Co. G 5th Tennessee Mounted Infantry at Cleveland, Bradley Co., Tn. This regiment was mustered out of service July 17, 1865.

In the book "The Pence Family of Georgia, N.C. & S.C." by Maxine E. Pence, pg. 63, it states he died between 1868-70. (No location is mentioned in the book although it is thought he died at his home in Gilmer County).

Darcus is listed as a "Widow" living with their 7 year old son Jesse in the 1880 Gilmer County, Georgia census. In May 1886 she applied for a pension due to Jesse's service in the Union Army in the Civil War.
