Thelma Jordan Strickland
July 18, 1945 - December 31, 2021

Thelma J. Strickland of Mechanicsville, MD peacefully went home to the Lord on the morning of December 31, 2021.

Born July 18, 1945, in Baltimore, MD to Joseph H. Jordan (deceased) and Mary E. Jordan (deceased).

Thelma was the fourth of Nine Children, Phyllis Hopewell (Jerome Hopewell (both deceased) Joan B. Jordan, Joseph M. Jordan, Jr.

(deceased) Rose Waters, Tony Jordan (Darlene), Gregory Jordan (Deborah), Michael Jordan (Christine) and Bernadette Tyer (deceased).

Thelma was blessed to have 2 children James Todd Holt and Moneta Jo Strickland (deceased) and four Grandchildren, Kendall J. Holt, Karina A. Holt, Kai E. Holt and Korwen R. Holt. Along with her God Children Renae Barnes, Andrew Barnes, Andre Jordan, Jr. and a host of Nieces and Nephews.

A Strong desire for education and knowledge. Thelma's formative years she attended St. Joseph's Parochial school (Morganza, MD, Cardinal Gibbons, Ridge, MD). After graduating Cardinal Gibbons, she attended Georgetown Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. This was her first love helping those who needed care and attention, giving all in her care the chance at a better quality of life. Nursing may have been her life's calling; it wasn't her only desire. She enrolled at George Washington University where she earned her second degree in accounting. This degree would launch her to travels across the world. After receiving her degree Thelma, worked for the U.S. State Department, from there she would work for United States Agency of International Development as Accountant/Auditor. This would take her abroad to South America, Central America, Manila Philippines, Samoa and Australia. After retiring from the Government, she briefly resided in California. After returning to St Mary's, she decided that two degrees and world travelling were not enough, she earned her third degree, an associate in information Technology at age 62. Thelma returned to her first love nursing, where she was the night shift Nurse Supervisor at Cedar Lane Senior Community Living Center, where she retired in 2014.

Thelma had a host of friends, from childhood friends, girlfriends, work colleagues, church parishioners, or her teammates. She loved softball, you could almost always find her on a Saturday or Sunday playing softball, or on a Thursday or Friday evening, in a bowling league, or simply playing cards with family and friends.
Thelma loved her Family, always helping in any way she could, sending a card, a phone call or even the use of her vehicle or home. She was in constant communication with everyone, from family in Georgia, California, Nebraska or friends in the State of Washington or Maine and Massachusetts. Thelma stayed in close contact with her childhood friends who remained in St. Mary's. As much as she loved her Family and Friends Thelma was a devout and faithful Catholic Christian woman, rarely would you find her without a rosary or prayer card with her.

Often after her overnight shift she would attend an early morning mass before going home.

Thelma loved her faith, she was a member of the ladies Sodality and a Lector for St Joseph's Catholic Church, she considered this an honor and privilege to serve the congregation but more importantly her Lord.

Mom. I love you, honored to be your son, and to carry on your love and legacy to help and care for others, regardless of whom they are. You were a Strong God fearing, loving woman. To quote the late, Frank Sinatra, "You Did It Your WAY". I Love you more. James Todd Holt.
