Robert was the son of Dr. Frederick F. Napier, b. 1816 in Va. and Phoebe Daniels b. in Ky. He was thrown into a sinkhole and left for dead. But, he survived. Some girls picking blackberries around close to the sinkhole found him and nursed him back to life, Elizabeth being one of them, whom he would marry later. He then went on and joined the Union Army.
