Mrs. Laman Is Laid To Rest
Hundreds of friends were grieved to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Thomas Laman, beloved resident of Mobeetie, who passed away in the Wheeler Hospital on Thursday, March 13, after an illness of only a few days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Laman were conducted at the Mobeetie Baptist church Saturday afternoon by Rev. R.L. Cooksey, pastor, assisted by Rev. Homer Salley.
Mrs. Laman had resided in Wheeler county for 27 years and was loved by all who knew her. The Wheeler Times joines [sic] the many friends in extending sympathy to this fine family in their bereavement.
Hattie Elizabeth Bowers Laman was born September 29, 1893 in Mobley, Arkansas and passed from this life March 13, 1947. She was converted when a child and united with the Baptist Church. She was united in marriage January 28, 1917, to Thomas Ellis Laman, came to Texas and has lived in Wheeler county for the past 27 years.
To this union were born 3 children; Chevel Laman Sluder of Corpus Christi; Maurita and Thomas Ellis Jr. of Mobeetie; one grandson; Samuel Laman Sluder.
Besides her husband and children, survivors are two brothers, O.J. Bowers, Calamine, Arkansas and C.W. Bowers, Edcouch, Texas. One brother preceded her in death.
