NOTED COMPOSER DIES AT HOME
Musician Known and Honored by Thousands Passes Away After Long Illness. Funeral Will Be Held Sunday.

Prof J B Vaughn died at his home at 274 North Thomas street this morning at 6 o'clock. Professor Vaughn was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle of Athens.
Professor Vaughn was a quiet and unassuming man and was loved by all that knew him. He possessed qualities that are not possessed by many people, he was at peace with the world, holding no grudges or ill feelings against anyone and lived up to the doctrine "love your enemies."
He was known in all sections of the country as a publisher of sacred songs, a greater part of his life being given to this pursuit. He published the first book of sacred songs that was ever published below the Mason and Dixon line and since that publication he has released about forty other publications. These book are used in homes and churches all over the United States and are used by people of all creeds and denominations.
Professor Vaughn was ill for three weeks proceeding his death and during his last illness was attended faithfully by his wife, Mrs Eulalia Mewborn Vaughn. During his illness he did not complain and was pleasant and clear minded until the end.
The funeral services will be held Sunday. Rev E H Jennings of the Baptist Tabernacle assisted by Drs J W Lynch and S J Cartledge will conduct the services. The interment will be held in the Oconee cemetery. The pall bearers will be the deacons of the Tabernacle and Dr M A Born, who was a faithful friend and physician of the deceased.
