Obituary for Julia Elizabeth Gilbert
Julia Elizabeth Gilbert, age 86, passed away on December 24, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. She was born to Glenn and Madge Farris in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 10, 1935. Julia leaves her loved ones with unforgettable memories and loving stories. She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.

Julia, (Granny, Miss Scarlet) was born March 10th, 1935, to parents Glenn and Madge Farris in Oklahoma City. She received her angel wings on December 24, 2021. She leaves her daughter Julie Anne Groth and husband Geoffrey. She also leaves her three loving grandchildren, her pride and joy, Trey, Farris, and Tripp, all of Dallas.

Although being born in Oklahoma, she was a longtime Park Cities resident. She attended Armstrong Elementary School, Highland Park Junior High, and Highland Park High School. She was in the graduating class of 1952, and she adored her many classmates. She was a proud "Scottie" and looked forward to the Golden Scots reunion each year. She went on to study at Stephens College in Colombia, Missouri, graduating in 1954. After returning to Dallas, she went on to work for Southwestern Bell as an Operator. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Norman, on a blind date. It was love and laughter and first sight. They married on June 15, 1957. Oh, the life these two shared.

Soon after their marriage, they moved to Grand Prairie, and this was a place she loved with her whole heart. Memories of Great Southwest Country Club, friend trips to Bandera and playing Gin Rummy, New Year's Day at the Walker's, Mistletoe Ball and Oops-a-Daisy, just to name a few. The most important thing to her was her amazing friends that she cherished so much. She really looked forward to her precious Birthday Club dinners at Piccolo Mondo. A wonderful group of women for having been friends for up to fifty plus years, would get together once a month to celebrate birthdays and that valuable friendship.

She and Norman loved to travel and went many places. A highlight trip was traveling to Europe on the Concorde, then traveling home on the QE2.

After raising her two children, Chip and Julie Anne, to an appropriate age, she began a career in real estate with Century 21. She was a million-dollar producer, top listing and selling agent, and a 21 Club Member. After 18 years in real estate, she started a wedding planning business "Within the Ribbons", and it was something she truly enjoyed. She continued her wedding business and went into the travel industry. She worked for Aston Hotels and Resorts, American Airlines and her beloved Rosewood Hotels and Resorts.

Her many activities and organizations included: Stephens College Alumni Club of Dallas, La'vant Garde – First Vice President, The Women's Club of Grand Prairie – Organizer and Charter Member, YMCA Team Captain and Quota Buster, Grand Prairie Easter Seal Chairman, The Metropolitan Opera of Dallas – Southwestern Hospitality Board Member, Grand Prairie Board of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Highland Park High School Association – Member, DFW Medical Center Foundation Board Member, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Mistletoe Ball, Mistletoe Ball Treetop Angel Chairman and President of The Magnolia Homeowner's Association in Dallas.

She was a community activist, a volunteer, and supporter of numerous charities in and around Grand Prairie. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie.

Her smile was infectious, and her hair and makeup were always perfect. She once made a FedEx deliverer turn around while she signed for her package because she didn't have her "Face On". She will be remembered for the love and care she showed to everyone and will never be forgotten. Her family misses her dearly and will always carry a piece of her in their hearts. Although she is not with us on Earth, we know she is with her son, Chip, and husband, Norman, watching over us all and her light will forever shine.

Her family will be holding a private service on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022 and a date for her memorial service is in progress.
