John E. Long, age 97, went peacefully to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning of December 31st, 2021. Son of John Bernard Long and Neva Beebe.

John lived his entire life in Millington (Genesee County, MI) on the farm with his sisters and younger brother. From a very early age, he farmed with his father using draft horses. His love of draft horses lasted his entire life. John became a legend in the Draft Horse Community, having trained over 160 horses for himself and others.

He left the farm to serve our country in World War II from April 1945 - July 1946. John served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. When the war ended, John returned to the farm to continue working the land while also being employed by Chevrolet in Flint, MI. He then took a job with the Genesee County Road Commission, where he retired after 30 years.

John married Vera (Harvey) in 1943 just before he left for the war. Together they raised four children - Sharon, Debbie, Angela and Bradley Long.

John is survived by his daughters - Deborah McFarlane, Angela (Mark) Hanlin, son - Bradley (Beth) Long; siblings - Doris Sobe, Evelyn Winters and Les (Marlene) Long; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
