James Shirl Adams, age 82, of Grove City, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, following a brief illness.

Known to his family and friends as "Shirl", he was born in Nectarine, Venango Co., on July 10, 1939, to James Earl and Edan M. (Daugherty) Adams.  He married Rachael Ann Hayes on Aug. 30, 1957. 

He was a graduate of Grove City High School in 1957.

Shirl served in the US Army for four years serving two years in France.

Shirl retired from the Grove City Borough in 2005 where he was a mechanic/operator since 1971.  Previously he worked for Cooper Energy and the Railroad.

He was a member and past fire chief for The Grove City Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Shirl enjoyed camping with his family and helping anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Rachael at home, three children, Bob Adams and wife Becky, Sharpsville, Scott Adams and wife Jackie, and Cheryl "Jo" Adams, both Grove City, four grandchildren, Chris Adams, and wife Carlie, Michael Adams, Robin Adams, and Davis Adams and fiancé Tara Herman, two great grandchildren, Christopher and Elliott Adams, and a brother, Randy Adams, New Castle.  His parents, five sisters, Eldene Cookson, Midge Baker, Audrey Isenberg, Irma Schroeder, and Marian Smith, and two brothers, Quay and Neil Adams, preceded Shirl in death.

Funeral Service:  Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Willard Morse officiating.

Visitation Hours:  Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., Grove City on Tuesday, Jan 4, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 7-9:00 PM.

Burial:  Mount Irwin Cemetery with Military Honors.
