Victoria "Vicki" L. (Tippins) Ray passed away July 12 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Vicki was born on March 14, 1961 in North Charleston, SC. She attended Myrtle Beach High School and went on to the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston where she received her degree in Sociology. Vicki attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her Master's Degree in Public Administration and received her Master's Degree in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Vicki was an active member of Tabor City Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the handbell and church choirs. She loved music and was a talented vocalist. She was an avid reader and student, and felt that both learning and teaching were daily goals. She was well traveled and was fortunate to have been to many places around the world. Above all, Vicki loved her family and friends and touched many lives in a special way.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Dr. James G. Tippins, Jr., and is survived by her husband, Joseph Ray and sons Alex and Alston of Tabor City; mother, Ann Tippins of Myrtle Beach, SC and brother, James Tippins of Murrells Inlet, SC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday in Tabor City Baptist Church by Pastor Bruce Schmidt. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to: Tabor City Baptist Church Music Ministry, P.O. Box 126, Tabor City, NC 28463 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
