Kirk A. Benson, 71, of Clare passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at First Covenant Church 201 Avenue H, Fort Dodge. Burial will be at the Otho Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
Kirk Alan Benson was born October 17, 1950 in Fort Dodge. He was a graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High and Iowa Central Community College. On October 22, 1971, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Glenda Grell. The couple made their home on an acreage near Clare where they raised their children and made lifelong memories with their grandchildren. Kirk was an insurance adjuster for most of his career retiring as a litigation manager for Pharmacists Mutual. Kirk was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt, fish, and take his dog on walks. Kirk had many talents such as carpentry and woodworking. Through the years he used his skills to help and teach others. He was a faithful man of God that passionately loved his family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Many of Kirk's friends felt like he was a brother or father to them. Kirk was always genuine and loving. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and beloved dog, Finley.
Kirk is survived by his wife Glenda, daughter Amy (Rod) Ball of Cedar Falls, and their children Kaden and Meghan, and son Ken (Linda) Benson of Phoenix, AZ and their children Tyler and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Benson of Dayton, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Benson, parents Kenneth and Helen (Nichols) Benson, siblings Kenneth Benson Jr. and Kristy Ott, father and mother in-law Pat and Dot Grell, nephew Chad Grell, and sister-in-law, Lynn (Grell) Deal.
