The only child of Horace White and Christine Cachikis, she first starred in an episode of "Empire Builders." She later began her television career in 1939, singing songs on "The Merry Widow." By 1954, she had her own talk show, "The Betty White Show," which faced criticism for having a Black performer, resulting in Betty giving him more screen time. By the 1960s, she was featured in both game and talk shows featuring Jack Paar and Johnny Carson. In the 1980s she starred in "The Golden Girls" with Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, and Rue McClanahan.
