Richard Dean Sparks, the son of Floyd L. and Marie E. Kinart Sparks was born on August 24, 1934, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School in 1952. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy August 1953 – July 1957.

On August 15, 1959, Richard married Lavonne E. Warner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Richard was a bricklayer for the Seedorff Masonry. He had also worked for the Maytag Company and other masonry companies in the Newton area. Richard was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa.

Richard died on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at his home in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Sparks.

Surviving are his wife Lavonne of Newton; daughters, Julie (Howard) Wearmouth of Newton and Jodi (John) McDade of Alburnett; his grandchildren, Erin, Travis, and Presley; and great-granddaughter, Klo.
