Rita Mae Brown was born to Ralph and Ruth (Taylor) Brown (both deceased) in Chandler, Oklahoma, September 30, 1953.
After Ralph's death, Ruth married Raymond Jeske (Rita was five years old, and Danny was 10.) in Cushing, Oklahoma. Raymond had one daughter, Carolyn Elaine Jeske, who was 15, 10 years older than Rita. On their first Sunday together, the new Jeske family went to Park Place Baptist Church and shared one pew, side by side...it became the family pew. Rita and her family would spend several years at Park Place, serving the Lord and loving their church family.
Rita started school at Deep Rock School, an independent school north of Cushing. In first grade she met her best friend, Etha Lamb, who later married Paul Tinnie. Rita and Etha would graduate Deep Rock School in eighth grade and go on to Cushing High School, from which they would also graduate together, never losing contact over later years.
After graduation, Rita gained a Nurses Aid certificate from Bacone College. She would go on to enjoy her Nurses Aid work at St. John's Hospital. During this time, she also met George Keener, whom she married.
Twins were born to Rita on August 15, 1980, in Tulsa: Robert Louis and Robyn Elaine Jeske. The twins were later adopted and raised by Ruth and Raymond Jeske. Rita also had two grandsons: Hunter Ray Jeske and Tony Jeske.
June 4, 1985, after George had passed, Rita married J. R. McDonald, to whom she has been happily married since. They enjoyed hours of travel, visiting with friends and relatives, and often fishing. Rita loved to read. It was a rare moment if you found her without a book in her hands.
A little over a year ago she fell, breaking an artificial knee. It became infected and she spent much time in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. During the last few months at Drumright Nursing Home, Rita began to develop signs of dementia. Five days before her death, some of the family gathered to celebrate with her. We were all elated to hear her call John 3:16 and Psalm 23 as her favorite Bible verses and then to quote each of them, word by word.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Justin Henderson, Hunter Jeske, Louis Jeske,
Donnie Sollars, and Paul Tinnie.
