The family eventually moved to Littlefork, Minnesota where he grew up on a farm and enjoyed playing baseball and going sledding. After attending school in Littlefork he joined the U.S. Army in 1961. He later returned to Littlefork where he married Rosie Merkling in 1968 and they had one child, Kent, in 1970. Ray worked various jobs in the Littlefork area before becoming an electrician in the 1970s, an occupation he continued until his retirement.
Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed cars, being outdoors, puzzles and games, singing and playing guitar, woodworking, fixing things, feeding the birds, watching baseball and auto racing, but more than anything he enjoyed being a dad and a grandpa.
He led a fulfilled, meaningful, and selfless life. He was generous, kind, and always there to help others. He was a wonderful dad and especially excelled at being a grandpa. Ray had a great sense of humor and could always make us smile and laugh. We will miss you, Dad and Grandpa Ray, and we'll see you in Heaven someday!
Ray is survived by his son, Kent (Heather); grandchildren: Chase and Aria; and sister, Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Laura, Lucy, Jan; and brothers: Don, Cliff, and Melvin.
Burial will be at Oakley Cemetery in Littlefork next Summer.
