Carol Lynn Kindred Thornton was born April 14, 1942, the third of four children to John Crede Kindred and Neva Farmer.
As the only daughter, Carol was adored and loved by her whole family. She graduated from Ogden High School before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany.
She returned to attend Brigham Young University where she met her soulmate, Donald Ray Thornton, to whom she was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and for all eternity on September 10, 1965. Creating a strong family that could love and serve each other was central to Carol's life with Don. Nothing was more important to them.
When they learned they would be unable to bring children into the world through natural childbirth, Carol and Don launched head long into preparing a home for three beautiful children who would bless their lives immeasurably. Carol loved being a mother. Her whole existence was to provide and care for these children she loved so dearly, and she did so in the most selfless of ways. She prayed for them, taught them the gospel, then watched them launch into the world knowing she had given them a good solid foundation from which to deal with the challenges of this life. Carol knew what was important.
Carol loved anything and everything to do with space, the cosmos, astronomy, exploration, and telescopes. It was as if she instinctively wanted to study and learn all she could about the world beyond her doorstep. She absolutely understood that this earth is only a temporary home for her and her family. The universe spoke to her, and it was as if the genealogy she was researching gave her ties not only to the past, but to the immenseness of space where she can now spend eternity with those ancestors she sought so diligently to find through her genealogical research.
Carol was preceded in death by both parents, her eldest brothers Buddy and Jerald "Jerry". She is survived by her youngest brother James "Jim", children Dave (Amy), Becky (Jade), and Dan, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Eagle Cliff Ward, 1600 Buttercup Drive, Sandy, Utah. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) and on Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to the services at the church. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
