In 2003, Kathy was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Every step of the way, her mantra was "Thy will be done, Lord." She didn't pray to get better, but prayed to accept whatever God's will was. She survived and was in remission for over 16 years. In those bonus years, she witnessed her son graduate from the University of Notre Dame twice, and saw him fall in love and get married. She met her two grandchildren and watched them grow and thrive. She was blessed with many years of love, experiences, and treasured memories. Her last celebration was a party for her grandson's 11th birthday in November. The greatest joys in Kathy's life were peaceful summer days spent at the beach in Cape May, NJ with her family from her childhood up through last year-- especially in recent years with her grandchildren.
Kathy's life was dedicated to justice, love, advocacy, and her Catholic faith. She used her creativity to make hundreds of scarves and hats for cancer patients, babies in the NICU, and for those in need. Her last project was making 100 knitted hats for the Ducketts Lane Elementary School Winter Coat Closet. She was a longtime member of St. Augustine Parish (CCASTA) in Elkridge, and was involved in the parish Prayer Shawl Ministry, and had a deep devotion to our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph.
We find comfort in the memories and love we carry–and in the mantra Kathy lived by: "Thy will be done, Lord." Until we meet again, may the Lord hold you ever in the palm of His hand.
