William Reid "Bill" Elliott, 89, of Macon, crossed into Heaven's gates on December 29, 2021.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Sunday, January 2, 2022, with Dr. Jim Bruner officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the Great Room at the Church.

Son of the late William Irby Elliott and Gladys Middlebrooks Elliott, Mr. Elliott was born in Macon, Georgia on February 3, 1932.

He attended Bruce Elementary and graduated from Lanier High School for Boys. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from Auburn University School of Engineering with a bachelor's degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Paris Island.

He especially enjoyed honoring his Scottish Heritage by attending the Stone Mountain, Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina Highland Games many times. He proudly wore his Elliott clan Kilt on many occasions.

Mr. Elliott was heavily involved with USAF Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs regarding policies and specifications. He organized and managed the Durability and Damage Tolerance Analysis Engineering Group within the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate to provide technical support to multiple aircraft program offices.

Recognizing the need for an Engineering school close to and affiliated with Robins Air Force Base, Mr. Elliott advocated for development of the Mercer University School of Engineering. Having served on the Board of Directors for many years, Mr. Elliott also advocated for the Mercer Engineering Research Center.

He was a member of Mikado Baptist Church, where he sang in the Choir as a tenor and served as the substitute Choir director. Later he became a member of Highland Hill Baptist Church, where he also sang as a tenor in the Choir and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Following retirement from the Civil service, Mr. Elliott became active in the Macon Downtown Rotary Club. He served on the committee charged with designing and building Rotary Park on Riverside Drive.

Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, and mother of his three children, Ruth Gregory Elliott.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Harris Butler Elliott; children, Greg Elliott (Cindy), of Macon, Georgia, Clay Elliott (Leslie), of Macon, Georgia, and Lisa Shepard (Bruce), of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren, Catherine Wilson (Casey), of Decatur, Georgia, Corey Elliott, of Macon, Georgia, and Hannah Elliott (Fiancé – Josh), of Macon, Georgia; step-children, Nancy Tudor (Dick), of Honolulu, Brad Butler (Tanya), of Gaffney, North Carolina, and Blair Butler (Lisa), of Columbia, Tennessee; step-grandchildren: Laura Lu (Stephen), of Milwaukee, Wisconcin, Stephanie Klein (Joe), of Columbus, Ohio, Bradley Butler, od Savannah, Georgia, Noah Butler, of Atlanta, Georgia, Seth Butler, of Tuskaloosa, Alabama, Tess Butler, of Columbia, Tennessee, and Maggie Shepard, of Woodstock, Georgia; great-grandson, Callum Elliott Wilson; and great step-granddaughter, Ruby Lu, of Milwaukee, Wisconcin .

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Elliott's honor to Highland Hills Baptist Church, at 1370 Briarcliff Road, Macon, Georgia 31211.
