Joe grew up in the Sunshine Community and was a graduate of Sunshine High School. He was a faithful member of the former Sunshine United Methodist Church, now Sunshine Church, where he served as church treasurer for 40 years. He also served in various church capacities including the cemetery committee where for many years he was involved in mowing the cemetery and church grounds. He most enjoyed working the "Poor Man's Suppers" at the church. Joe was devoted to the church and loved being a part of the church family.
Joe was an avid golfer, enjoyed blue grass music and collecting Tom Clark figurines. He served his country in the United States Army and was the Parts Department Manager for McCurry-Deck Motors where he retired with 38 years' service.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Ann Mayes.
Survivors include his wife, Mollie Jo McGuinn Robertson of the home, his grandsons, Marche Pittman and wife Jennifer of Columbus, and Ryan Langford and wife Heather of Tennessee, his former wife, Wilma Robertson of Bostic, and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Pittman, Celia Pittman, and Renly Langford.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Friday, December 31, 2021, at Sunshine Church with Reverend Teresa Blanton officiating. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
