Tom is also survived by two children, Ryan (Alison) Henry of Jacksonville and Erica Scheller of Weldon Spring, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kody, Ashton, Jacob, William, Isabella, and Michael; four brothers, John (Shelly) Henry of West Donegal, Pennsylvania, Jim (Pat) Henry of Mt. Sterling, Tim (Rose) Henry of Mt. Sterling, and Paul (Sue) Henry of Bowen, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tom had the distinction of attending a one-room schoolhouse in Cooperstown with his twin brother and best buddy Tim. He attended Brown County Schools and graduated from Brown County High School in 1971. He attended Spoon River College, graduating with an associate degree in Machine Technology in 1973.
Always a hard worker, Tom began working on farm equipment at a very young age out of high school. He worked at Kenny's Farm Supply in Virginia as a mechanic until it's closure. He then opened Henry's Service Center in Virginia in 1987. He began working out of a Morton building he rented from a local farmer until he established his own storefront on Route 125. He was proud to have his son Ryan join him in the business in 2002, opening a location in South Jacksonville. In 2009, the locations were consolidated under one roof at their current West Morton location. Tom treasured being able to work every day alongside his son. If Tom was in town, he was at the store. Tom had a great love for old International Harvester tractors and became an avid collector and restorer.
From a young age, Tom was passionate about waterfowl hunting. In his younger days, he enjoyed quail hunting with his father-in-law. In 1988, he took his love of duck hunting to southern Illinois where he helped found the 18 Bottom Farm Hunting Club. It wasn't just the hunting he enjoyed, but the time he was able to spend with his fellow outdoorsmen and the improvements they made to the club in recent years.
Tom was a longtime member of the Christian church. As a child he attended Cooperstown Christian Church and since 1978 he has been a dedicated and active member at First Christian Church in South Jacksonville. He was also proud to come from several generations of St. Louis Cardinals fans.
Although Tom could seem a little ornery sometimes, he was always generous with others, whether he was lending his time or funds to a charity or loaning his vehicle to a stranger. Tom cherished his family and his roles of devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He rarely missed his grandson's ball games, whether they were in town or on the road, and was always glad to offer encouragement and advice.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021, at First Christian Church in South Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville.
