On October 18, 1969, Bill married the love of his life Gail Theresa DeFrain at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church of Garden City, MI, and they shared 50 wonderful years of married life together. After serving in the Navy, he started his career as a stationary engineer/boiler operator with Detroit Edison, transitioning to hotels and finishing at Van Buren Public Schools. Bill and Gail moved from Westland, MI to Gulliver, MI in 2014 and enjoyed the lake life together. Bill was a member of the Upper Michigan Central Model Railroad Club and had a lifelong passion for trains and boats. He liked traveling to see and photograph trains across the country. Bill was a model railroad enthusiast and collected and made components for model train sets and model ships. He was so dedicated to making models, that he would sometimes bring his latest project to work on while taking pontoon rides as his wife went fishing. Bill enjoyed cooking and baking and loved spending time with his family. When his wife Gail passed away on July 1, 2021, Bill's heart went with her, and for the family, it is a comfort to know he is reunited with her now.
Bill is survived by his sons William A. (Jennifer) Walters of Macomb, MI, and Christopher M. Walters of Clinton Twp, MI; daughter Susanne (Robert) Torres of Deming, NM; brother Douglas J. (Joan) Walters of Howell, MI; sister Linda Shriner of Detroit, MI; 13 grandchildren, Lindsay, Stephani, William, Lukas, Scott, Cecil, Rhyan, Jordyn, Morgan, Devon, Destaney, Deanna, Dezeray and 2 great-grandchildren, Leann and Austin.
