Eddie James Williams was born on 11 August 1940 in Millen, GA from the union of Victor and Luevater Williams (Robinson). Eddie was the eight born of ten children. The Williams Family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1940.
EDUCATION:
Eddie attended Dillard Elementary School and later graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL where he was a decorated athlete. A member of the 1960 graduating class, Eddie was popular amongst his classmates and maintained a lifelong bond with his childhood friends. Eddie held the district record in pole vaulting and proudly lead the marching band as the drum major for the Dillard High Panthers credited with the "longest stretch" to strut on to the field.
RELIGION:
Eddie was raised in the Apostle Faith Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Albert Wilkes. Eddie served as an usher in the church throughout his youth.
PROFESSION:
Eddie served the community as a professional bus operator and transportation engineer for over thirty-eight years. He served honorably and retired from New York City Transit in 1990 after 22 years of service. He loved his profession so much that he went back to his passion for serving the community and retired a second time from Liberty Lines in Westchester County, NY in 2006. Impacted by racial injustice, Eddie chose his profession as a bus driver at a young age. Often passed by at the bus stop on his weekend bus trips to his grandmother's house, Eddie decided that he would always take care of anyone that needed a ride. Eddie loved his adventure as a bus driver. Eddie received many accolades and awards during his tenure to include appreciation awards for his dedication and service to the community. Eddie was commended for his superb safety record at many points throughout his career.
PERSONAL HOBBIES:
In his leisure time, Eddie studied professional horse racing and spent countless hours at the track pursuing the craft. Eddie was a world traveler and spent much of his post-retirement time traveling the globe learning about different cultures, meeting new people, and enjoying life. Eddie relished spending time as much time as possible with his children, grandchildren and his beloved sister. Eddie was the Vice President of the 1960 graduating class board for the Dillard High School Alumni Association. An avid competitor, Eddie enjoyed all sports but had a lifelong affection for track and swimming. Eddie loved to laugh and was always on standby for a good joke or to watch an old cowboy movie.
