Shirley Ann Richie Carey, age 86, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 28, 2021. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was an avid reader and game show fanatic but her family and grandchildren were most important to her. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. For over 30 years she worked with Dr. William Hardy and his wife June. Many will remember her as a greeter at Walmart, always with a warm smile and quick wit. Shirley was involved in the church and especially loved cooking for the youth church camps. She spent her life in service to others. Her legacy lives on through her children, grands and greats! Shirley was loved tremendously by her family and friends and lives on in their precious memories. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by husband, Donald Oliver Carey; infant daughter, Marian Ann Carey; brother, Marion Richie and his wife Mildred; sisters, Nelda Richie, and Alma Collins and her husband Curt; sister-in-law, Laura Ritchie; brother-in-law, Lee Carey; and son-in-law, Steve Cox . Survivors include brother, Wayne Richie and wife Bonnie of Germantown TN; sister-in-law, Elaine Carey of Edmonds WA; son, Joseph Warren Carey and wife Gwynne of Knoxville; daughters, Laura Jane "Janie" Anderson and husband Mark of Hiawassee, Ga, and Denise Cox of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Kayla Carey, Chad Carey and Fiancé Chara Morris, Ian Anderson, Nick Anderson and wife Sylvia, Josh Anderson and wife Monica, Jessica Reynolds; and Jeremy McMillian; great grandchildren, Jaylin Reynolds, Waverly, Roland, and Lilly Anderson, and Nadia Johnson, as well as many other relatives, friends, and loved ones. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff and caregivers of Amedysis Hospice and Home Instead. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local hospice. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Weatherford Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3 pm with Rev. Chuck Shonkwiler officiating.
