Brandon M. Smith, 31, of South Bend was killed on December 19, 2021 in a senseless act of gun violence. Our son's life ended almost instantly while trying to save someone he loved. He was unexpectedly taken from his parents, family, and friends.

Brandon was an amazing, funny, intelligent, loving, dependable, and compassionate young man. He loved us all with every meaning of his beautiful soul. If you needed anything, he was there no matter what. Family and friends were always first in his beautiful eyes. He is the best person we have ever known and we are so proud to say he is our son. He will live on through everyone he touched during his short life. He was our rock and is already greatly missed.

Brandon was born on March 28, 1990 to Belinda Holcomb and Michael Smith in South Bend, IN. Both parents survive. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Jen) Holcomb Jr. of South Bend, IN. and Michael (Beth) Smith of Yelm, WA as well as a sister; Leslie (Tim) Beuley of North Liberty, IN. Also surviving are seven nephews and five nieces; Isaiah, Bryson, Braxton, Mackenzie, Makayla, and Lacie Holcomb of South Bend, IN as well as Zack, Shade, Jacob, and Abigail Beuley of North Liberty, IN and Maverick and Penelope Smith of Yelm, WA. Six uncles and eleven aunts also survive.

Brandon was the most devoted person you could ever meet. He loved to travel and to ride his Harley. He loved to fish, kayak, and ride snowmobiles and ATVs. He loved cars; especially his Monte Carlo. He loved to go deer hunting with his uncle Joe and cousin James. He would spend as much time as he could with family and friends. Brandon was someone you could count on day or night. He was a major Notre Dame fan. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and by all that knew him.

Brandon was preceded in death by grandparents Diana Crowder (Faunce), Richard Whetstone, Ann Smith (Tirotta), Gary Adams and John and Betty Smith. Also preceding him were great grandmothers, Carmella Moser and Marthetta Witham along with and uncle, Johnny Smith. His best friend, Huey Hudson Jr., also preceded him in death.

Brandon was a hard worker. He was employed as an operating engineer apprentice at Local 150.

Brandon has four special people in his life that loved him as a son; Joe and LaDonna Smith, Joel Geyer and Eric Laughman.

"If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever."
