Helen R. West of Blanchester, Ohio, passed away on December 23, 2021, at the age of 98.
Born on November 16, 1923, in Olinger, Virginia, daughter of Samuel and Mattie (nee Roberts) Olinger.
At a young age Helen and her family traveled by wagon across the Clinch Mountain to their new home in Tennessee, where Helen met the love of her life, Clarence. For 26 years, Helen was a proud military wife to Clarence. Together they traveled the country and the world. In retirement, they traveled the United States, visiting places they did not have the opportunity to while in the service.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was heavily involved with her family genealogy. Helen was also a member of the Blanchester VFW Auxiliary and the Rebecca's. She was a faithful member of the Edenton First Baptist Church for many years. Helen enjoyed quilting and made several beautiful quilts for her family.
She was the beloved mother of James C. (Sheila) West, Jr., Samuel (Patricia) West, Janet Detwiler, and Debbie (John) Ehling; loving grandmother of James (Kim) West III, Robert (Lori) West, Sandra Brown, Tanya (Pete) Gemmer, Laura (Patrick) McManis, Jeff (Aurelia) Detwiler, Jason (Christina) Detwiler, Tiffany (Matt) Nation, Kristi (Matt) Jones, and Joshua Ehling; proud great-grandmother of 18; dear aunt to special nieces, Betty Williams and Pam Teague; also leaves behind several loved nieces, nephews, cousins.
Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, James C. West, Sr.; son, Steven West; son-in-law, Jon Detwiler.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, Ohio.
Funeral service will take place at 11am at the Edenton First Baptist Church, 6655 Edenton Pleasant Plain Rd, Pleasant Plain, OH 45162.
Entombment will take place at 2pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
