Audrey Jackson Obituary
Reverend Audrey Lee Jackson, 90, entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 14, 2021. Audrey was born in Fairfield, Texas on December 1, 1930 to Isaiah Jackson and Orene Preston. He is the second of nine-teen children. Audrey met and married Rachel Willis in June 28, 1964. They've been married for 57-years. Audrey is the father of five children Larry Jackson, Elizabeth Lambert, Tricia Swearingen, Gerald Jackson and Aretha Jackson. Audrey attended school and worked sharecropping the fields of Fairfield Texas and Knox City, Texas. After Audrey finished school he was drafted into the United States Army in the early 1950's. Audrey excelled in the United Sates Army being the only person of color assigned as a computer programmer. Audrey left the Army to resume work share-cropping in Knox City, Texas. Shortly after Audrey realized he wanted a better life. Audrey left the cotton fields to find work in the oil -booming region of the Permian Basin. Audrey made his home in Odessa, Texas initially, and then moved to Amarillo, Texas finally settling in Midland, Texas. While in Odessa, Texas he found work as a gas attendant, truck driver, and sales position at Sear's and Roebuck where he worked for many years. While Audrey found his niche in sales he knew his soul was empty. He began to seek the Lord--which he'd avoided for a good portion of his younger years. Audrey started his search and found the Lord at Walker's Chapel in Odessa, Texas in the 1950's. Audrey served in whatever capacity need-ed-janitor, deacon, Sunday school teacher for children. Sunday school became Audrey's passion. Audrey went on to serve as District Superintendent in the Midland District, Ama-rillo District #2, San Angelo District and State Sunday School Superintendent for Texas Northwest. In addition to Sunday school, Audrey served as the public rela-tions person for the Midland Region, Member of the Trustee Board for Texas Northwest, Chairman of the budget commit-tee for USAC, and San Angelo District Superintendent. Audrey has held many positions --not because he sought titles-- but because he was asked to serve. Audrey has said "I'd rather be known as being kind to others than seeking titles or posi-tions." Audrey lived a life of sales and service to others. His most valuable sales pitch is persuading lost souls to come to Christ. he was called to the ministry in the mid 1970's under the late Amos Taylor and served under the last C.S. Johnson as an associ-ate minister. His first pastorate was in 1977 in Ballinger, Texas at The Church of God in Christ #1. Following in 1978 was his second pastorate as founder of Holy Trinity COGIC where he has remained faithful for 43-years. Audrey has been a pas-tor for 43-years but has served people in ministry in various capacities for over 65-years. Preceding him in death are his parents Shack and Orene Jackson and daughter, Tricia Ann Swearingen; Seven brothers--Hoover Isaiah, Billie Bert, McArthur, Larry Kenneth, Unice, Clarence Wayne, Errol Stanley, Sr. and five sisters--Lillian Celes-tine Gooden, May Francis Jackson, Mary Lynn Crowley, Ginger Charlene Crowley, and Ann Rebecca Weaver. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, 4-children, 15-grandchildren, 23-great grandchildren and 5-great-great grandchil-dren, two brothers Reginald and Jeffrey Jackson; four sisters Linda Patricia Flanders, Paulette Ileen Jackson, Deborah Den-ise, Joceylyn Michelle Phears and host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Audrey was a people -person known for his love and kindness toward people, laughter, sense-of humor, occasional sarcasm and direct communication-- many people loved him and some people tolerate him-- either way, he remained the same. His favorite food was pizza and his favorite cake was coconut cake. He also enjoyed traveling. Audrey's favorite scriptures are "Let all things be done decently and in order." I Corinthians 14:40.
