Dawn was born on July 21, 1958, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Bob and Pat (Johnson) Nieman. She attended school in New Hartford and graduated from New Hartford High School in 1976.
Dawn was united in marriage to Raymond James on June 28, 1980, at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford. The couple lived in Colorado and California for a few years, before moving back to the area in 1983.
Upon returning, Dawn attended Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo.
She worked at OSCO and later Qwest in Waterloo.
Dawn loved spending time outside and Ray and Dawn's adventurous trips took them thousands of miles on their motorcycle. Together they were active in A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa, where Dawn served as secretary for a time.
After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren the "4 Aces" and she was always up for a trip to the park with them.
She also enjoyed playing games on her computer, reading, listening to music, color by numbers on her tablet and watching movies.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Nieman; her husband, Ray James; her paternal grandparents, Abel and Eva Nieman; her maternal grandparents, Beryl and Lena Johnson; along with several aunts and uncles.
She will be missed dearly by her Eeyore, Pooh, Tinker Bell and Tigger.
The family is planning to have a celebration of Dawn's life at a later date.
