Sandra " Sandy" Marie Hvezda Schmidt
January 30, 1946 ~ December 17, 2021

Sandra Schmidt lost her battle with COVID and passed away December 17, 2021. She was born January 30, 1946 in Alexandria, Minnesota, the youngest of nine children.

She grew up close to family and enjoyed the busyness of life on the farm. Sandy graduated Alexandria High in 1964 and attended secretary school. In 1967 she married her beloved Kardell Schmidt, husband for 54 years.

Kardell and Sandy started their own family of three children in the Alexandria area and then accepted an offer to relocate to Texas in 1981. The Schmidt family made Midlothian their home for the next 15 years. In 1996, Kardell and Sandy discovered a grand 18 acres in Woodbury, Texas and it became home for the last 25 years.

Sandy served as a first responder on the Woodbury Fire Department for several years and when unable to go on calls, continued to find ways to help out. Sandy was a great cook, avid quilter, devout Christian, but most of all, she was a treasured wife, mother, and grandmother.

The lessons she learned from the farm benefitted her throughout life including: the value of hard work, the joy of a generous heart and the pleasure in enjoying the simple things. She loved to gather with fellow quilters and women in the community regularly to share in prayer, friendship and good conversation.

Survived by her husband, Kardell Schmidt, children: Dawn, Vance, Aimee, grand children, great-grand children and other extended family. Preceded in death by parents, Rueben and Elsie Hvezda, brothers, Ron, Tom, Nick and sisters, Karolynn and Kay.

The memorial service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held December 27, 2021 in Hillsboro, Texas. She will be interred to her final rest in the family cemetery in Alexandria, Minnesota at a later date...CSFH
