Phil Shirar of Darlington passed away Sunday, December 26th at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was 72.

Born November 9, 1949 at Crawfordsville he was the son of Edgar and Margaret Shirar. He graduated from Darlington High School and later served in the United States Army in Vietnam. On November 26, 1983 he married Deborah Tipton Shirar. She survives.

Phil was retired from Raybestos and was the owner of Custom Fence and Sons. He was a member of Stonewater Church of Linden and enjoyed spending much of his time with his kids and grandkids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rebekah Schott, Josiah Shirar, Eli Judah Shirar, Amy Malelo, Shawn Nobile, Kori Mitchell, Heath Morgan; fifteen grandchildren and brothers Robert Shirar and Richard Shirar.

Visitation will be from 3-5:00 PM Thursday, December 30th at the Darlington Community Center located at 105 Franklin Street in Darlington. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 5:00 PM with Pastor Steve Covington officiating. After the service, friends and family are invited to remain and continue to share memories and celebrate Phil's life.
