Doyle Briggs, age 86, Flag Pond, passed away at his home, Sunday December 26, 2021. He was lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Homer and Flora Proffitt Briggs.

Doyle retired from Unicoi County Highway Department after thirty years of service as a truck driver. He loved the mountains, farming, hunting, and working on farm equipment. Doyle was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Norma Ruth Briggs on January 19, 2018; his son, James Doyle Briggs; granddaughter, Shaina Lee Whitt; son-in-law, David Whitt; one brother, H.Y. Briggs; four sisters: Sarah McCurry, Ida Mae Tipton, Betty Timberlake, and Vivian Harmon.

Doyle leaves behind to cherish his memory, two daughters: Lisa Whitt of Mars Hill, NC, Darlene White and husband, Jonas of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Upper Rice Creek Cemetery. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by David and Penny McNally, Tabitha and Annie White. Pallbearers will be David Maxwell, Darrell White, T.J. White, Billy White, Tim Silvers, Jonas White, and Tyler Christenson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to: Arlin and Janet Rice, Jennifer Briggs, David Briggs, Glen and Audrey Shelton.
