Kaukauna Soldier Reported Killed in Italian Campaign
Kaukauna—Private George Egan, Jr., 20, was killed in action Sept. 16 in Italy, according to a telegram his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Egan, 263 W. Wisconsin avenue, received Monday afternoon from the war department.
Private Egan was born here Feb. 8, 1923, and attended Kaukauna High school from which he graduated in 1940. Entering military service Feb. 20, 1943, he served in the chemical warfare department. After landing in North Africa June 19 he took part in the invasion of Sicily. Last letter was dated on the day he was killed.
Survivors include the parents, the grandmother, Mrs. Albert Ludke, Kaukauna; three brothers, Petty Officer Charles, naval aviation station, Quanset Point, R. I., James and William at home, and one sister, Marion, at home.
