Viola Lou Elliott, 82 amazing years old, passed into the arms of God and into eternity with her beloved husband Otis, who she missed every day since his passing on December 22, 2014.

She was the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Ballenger) Hamblen, born on August 19, 1939, in Wakenda, Missouri. Viola was married to E.J. Hayes in 1957, and he died in 1965. On March 18, 1967, she married Otis Lavern Elliott, who also preceded her in death. Viola was a devoted wife and wonderful mother to her many children. She spent all of her time raising her family, sharing special times and moments with each one, and therefore leaves a different memory and legacy to each one of her children and grandchildren. It is mind boggling how she never showed any favoritism or acted any differently to any of her family, and yet, she had a way about her of making each one feel special and very much loved. She loved them unconditionally and never judged them by what they did or the decisions they may have made. With her way of doing things, they all respected and loved her back the same way. Viola was no doubt a wonderful cook, who one could only imagine how tiring it must have been day in and day out cooking for a large family, but she really liked providing wonderful meals; just another way to show them how much she cared. Nearly every Sunday, the family would gather for some of their favorites like fried potatoes, ham and beans, cornbread, and yes, her fried chicken was second to none. In fact, to help out with the groceries each family would bring a whole chicken, and she would somehow have it completely and perfectly cut up in a matter of minutes. Everything she did was done effortlessly and it was extremely important while teaching her children many life lessons and life skills, that they were taught correctly how to do things; the laundry had to be hung out to dry a certain way, clothes had to be folded a certain way, everything she did had to be to her expectations and her kids didn't mind because she actually made it fun to learn. The kids all recall the dilemma of asking their mom if they could go someplace or do something, and it always ended up for them to go ask their dad, and of course he would refer them back to mom. This could go on for hours and by the time they went back and forth, it was usually too late to do whatever it was they were asking to do or they sometimes forgot what it was they wanted to do in the first place; a pretty good parenting plan! Viola was soft spoken, soft hearted, and never asked for much in return from anyone, but she did always ask her children and grandchildren to call to let her know they made it home safely, and then she could rest easy. Absolutely no one can ever remember her saying a harsh word to anybody as this was the kind person everyone knew and loved. Viola loved for her family and friends to come visit, in fact she never wanted anyone to leave. She made sure to tell everyone, "I love you", and she would also say don't hurry out, what's your hurry, or stay awhile. One of the things she enjoyed most was going on rides with David, especially out in the country; they would drive for hours and hours, and as long as she had her pop, potato chips, and a candy bar, she was good to go! Viola enjoyed collecting wind chimes, watching hummingbirds, and looking at her beautiful flower gardens with the four o'clock, and morning glories being two of her favorite flowers. She liked sewing and with a family this large, she undoubtedly patched thousands of clothing items! Viola somehow managed a few hours each week to clean other people's homes for those who needed a little extra help. She and her family had attended Wakenda Baptist Church.

Viola leaves her family who will mourn her loss. She is survived by her nine children, one daughter-in-law, three sisters, twenty six grandchildren; forty four great-grandchildren, with one due in January of 2022,and one due in June of 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Helen Hamblen; two sons, James Allen Elliott, and John Earl Hayes; three grandsons, Quentin James Simmons, Charles Eric Hamblen, and Gary Wayne Pridemore; one granddaughter, Jessika LeAnn Maddox; and one great-grandson, Jace River Hamblen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri.

Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23, 2021, officiated by Reverend Lanny Lybarger, at the family home, in Otis Cemetery, east of Carrollton on 24 Highway.

Viola absolutely loved all children, so in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that if you would like to make a memorial contribution, that you consider making them to Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Shriners Children's Hospital. They may be left at or mailed to Bittiker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 223, Carrollton, Missouri, 64633.
